The initscripts package contains /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts-ifcfg-lo
which defines the lo interface.  You might want to do an
rpm -V initscripts
and see what it says about that file.

Here's what it looks like on my machine:
DEVICE=lo
IPADDR=127.0.0.1
NETMASK=255.0.0.0
NETWORK=127.0.0.0
BROADCAST=127.255.255.255
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTP=no


Could you run /sbin/ifconfig and send me the result?
