I had a similar problem with my install. I ended up ripping out my no
name SCSI card, my ethernet card, and my ATI Rage Pro Turbo video card. I
had an original ATI Rage on my motherboard and I ran off of that for the
install. After I did that Linux installed fine, and I just dropped back
in my hardware after the install. XWindows doesn't work very well with my
Rage Pro Turbo at the moment so I am not sure what is up with that. I can
use the SVGA server for know... with some trouble. If I reboot I have to
remove the SVGA server and reinstall it before it will work again, weird
no? If anybody has any ideas on that let me know. Anyway, don't know if
this will help, I just thought I would put in my .02 worth.
