looks like you wanted a & on the end of that command ...

(you might try just booting and hitting ctrl-C to terminate rc5 so it
could continue with the boot sequence)

if not, then when you get to the LILO prompt (if you're using lilo) then
type something like:

  linux single

(replace linux with your boot option if needs be).  this will place you in
single user mode.  edit the file, press ^D and you should be fine.
