When I left Worcester Polytechnic Institute (www.wpi.edu) 3 years ago, it
was completely *nix. There are windows computer everywhere, for other
students to use, but lots of DEC stations in the labs, alphaservers in the
computer centers, and linux servers in dorm rooms. First day of school,
EVERYBODY had a crash course on unix basics such as changing passwords,
using elm, pine, and such. CS courses were done completely with *nix. Once
you've got the fundamentals and *nix under your belt, any smart person can
do anything they want, be in Windows, *nix, or wherever. If you couldnt
get to one of the very numerous X-terminals or workstations, then every
Windows computer had Xserver software on it.
