I have the unfortunate curse of working with one of these POS machines as
well, however I don't think it is your partition that messes it up. I would
suggest using loadlin, as you seem to want to put it on the second drive, and
you won't mess up the MBR or any partitions on your primary drive, and as for
accessing the drive you want to put RH on, it doesn't care if their DOS
partitions or not (obviously) and it does a partition check when it starts
up, so just fdisk /dev/hdb (possibly /dev/hdd - installation should prompt
you) and continue upon your merry way. Good luck!

Hi,
I'm working on a compaq deskpro 4000 (not a good computer). Now i've
got
$95 on a HDD and i've installed an other HDD to use Linux on it. When
i try
to boot on the RH boot floppy it starts loading but then reboots, and
reboots...
I've had a look at my partitions and discovered a "non-dos" partition
where
compaq probably puts its configuring system to load the (95) then. I
think
there is some sort of loader in the mbr that uses this partition. Now
my
problem is how shall i overpass this to start installing RH and then
what
will happen when i will try to setuo LILO.
Maybe i can use loadlin ? but then how can i reach the disk where i
want to
put RH ?
My config is
first disk : one partition "non-dos" 24 Mo probably used by compaq
------------------ primary dos 1200 Mo with 95
------------------ extended dos with files ......
second disk 540 Mo where i want to install RH 5.0
I've got the RH5 CDs, the boot and root floppies.
Any idea ?
