CANNOT OPEN DIRECTORY on installation

My machine has two hard drives. One has win95. The win95 disk has the
directories \c:\RedHat\base and \c:\RedHat\RPMS. These directories have
all the files for a complete installation of RedHat 5.2.

In the "Find Installation Files" step of the installation, I enter
/dev/hda1 for the device and / for the "name of the partition containing
the RedHat/base and RedHat/RPMS."

When I press <enter>, I get CANNOT OPEN DIRECTORY. What could be wrong?
Most other pathnanames I try say "no RedHat installation filesystem found
on /dev/hda1" (or something like that.)

Thanks in advance.
