Update on VU BBS for Linux, April 13, 1995
Contact: Dyfett@aol.com
As of this writing, all the B1 (Beta-1) release files for VU BBS should
now
be available for ftp access through sunsite.unc.edu. under either in
/pub/Linux/Incoming or /pub/Linux/system/BBS/vubbs. This should be
reflected by sunsite mirrors in the next few days. Look for the following
files:
admin-b1.tar.gz, misc-b1.tar.gz, dscan-b1.tar.gz, hello-b1.tar.gz,
menu-b1.tar.gz, lgm-b1.tar.gz, and doorway-b1.tar.gz.
As this is the first beta for VU BBS, there are bound to be surprises.
The
system is under active development, and several VU BBS beta sites have
already sprung up. Our next step will be to distribute the VU BBS
link-kit
and Beta-1 sources, and then begin on the B2 release.
For those who had missed the earlier announcement, VU BBS is a very easy
to
use BBS environment featuring a common object oriented windowing
interface.
VU BBS features tools for visually managing user accounts, a menu shell, a
visual mail agent, a multiplexed 'front-end' getty replacement for dialup
and
ppp users, a visual login and new user registration program, and a browse
list oriented file transfer system. VU BBS components can be used
stand-alone and with other Linux BBS software. A uqwk aware visual news
agent
is under development, along with many new modules and features.
VU BBS is being made available free of charge to all interested beta
sites.
We will distribute several interum beta releases before making the
software
generally available as shareware, perhaps by mid-summer.
Other VU BBS resources include VU BBS mailing lists. The following lists
are currently open. Simply subscribe through majordomo@julie.pond.com.
