Subject: LessTif Release 0.92.6 is out!
Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 14:47:21 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The LessTif Core Team is pleased to announce
      Release 0.92.6
of the LessTif library!

This new "PICO release" addresses a few problems which may have
prevented the 0.92.0 package from building on some systems.
No fixes have been implemented which affect the core functionality
of the previous release as described below.

The most important news is that we are going to switch over to
a 2.1 compatible default version. For now our (default) source claims
to be 2.0 which is an intermediate step:
our final 2.1 version will most likely be binary incompatible
with the current 2.0 version.

Other changes:
 - fixed some minor bugs in the libraries, and some critical ones
(i.e. those which could trigger a program crash), and plugged some
   memory leaks
 - further enhanced the configuration system.
LessTif should now work much better out of the box on several
platforms. We now check for all non-ANSI interfaces, though
we may not always offer a fallback if they do not exist
 - fixed an Xbae problem if run on multiple displays
 - fixed a couple of 2.0/2.1 compatibility issues
 - we now build a set of clients (mwm, uil, xmbind) for each
   library version being built

About LessTif:
LessTif is a LGPL'd implemention of the OSF/Motif standard GUI toolkit
for X11 on unix. LessTif aims to be source compatible with the
OSF/Motif versions 1.2 and 2.1. While we're almost done with the 1.2 part
we lack some substantial parts of the 2.1 functionality yet.

So at this point, most Motif 1.2 apps compile and run
out of the box with LessTif! The LessTif Core team is interested
in hearing about Motif applications which don't work with LessTif.
Bug reports are welcome; patches are even more welcome!

More information, source code, and binaries for several platforms are
available at:

        http://www.lesstif.org

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Dear All

This announcement is to inform you about an updated version of Mailfilter.

Mailfilter is a flexible utility to get rid of unwanted spam mails, before
having to go through the trouble of downloading them into the local
computer. It offers support for one or many POP3 accounts and is
especially useful for dialup connections via modem. You can define your
own filters (rules) to determine which e-mails should be delivered and
which are considered waste.

Download the latest version from:

  http://mailfilter.sourceforge.net/

This release fixes a small but very serious memory leak which caused
previous Mailfilter releases to break on some versions of Linux/glibc.
Also passwords with certain non-alphanumeric characters are now scanned
and read correctly.

Thanks for your time and interest,

Andi.

Reply-To: russell.marks@ntlworld.com

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

zblast is a simple but fairly manic shoot-em-up. There are versions
for both svgalib and X.

So go on, it's time to break another keyboard. ;-)

zblast's homepage is here:

  http://www.svgalib.org/rus/zblast/

You can also download it from ibiblio (formerly metalab):

  ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/games/arcade/zblast-1.2.tar.gz

Nothing earth-shattering in 1.2, but a few changes to bring it out of
the dark ages a little :-), and some security fixes.

* Changes in zblast 1.2

Fixed some potential buffer overruns.

Now installed setgid games (for both versions), to avoid requiring
(yikes) world-writable scores file.

Defaults to 16kHz sound when available, resorting to the old 8kHz
otherwise.

Joystick/joypad support. Not that great a way to play it IMHO, but it
was fun to gratuitously add support to something after having bought a
pad. :-) You can disable this at compile time if need be.

Saner installation, and new uninstall target.

The sound-generating process now exits when the main program quits
abnormally, rather than hanging around.

Sound effects made louder.

X version now supports `delete window' message from window manager.

svgalib version converted to use svgalib's raw mode support rather
than rawkey.

Made text-drawing slightly more sane.

The `loading music' bit indicates time passing a bit better.

Here's the LSM entry:

Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 14:54:57 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

=========================================================================
Looplinux is a relatively small distribution of the linux operating
system.

It can be installed on and run from a dos/win9x system.

It will use the standard linux ext2 filesystem, it can also
use a umsdos filesystem if the kernel supports it.

There's no need to repartition, the linux system will just be a file
on your dos system and act like it was on it's own partition.

Read looplinux.readme for further info at the site below.

Looplinux doesn't include x windows or the gcc compiler, but
these are easy to install on looplinux, connect to this url
for instructions.

http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/index.html

Looplinux has support for ide, scsi, & ps/2 hard drives, ethernet cards,
ide & scsi cdrom drives, tcp/ip networking i.e. slip/ppp, floppy drives,
serial & non serial mice, parallel printers, pnp, pcmcia, firewall & ip
masquerading, token ring.

If you're not sure looplinux will boot on your system get "looplnx.exe"
and a kernel = "bzImage", boot the small setup linux system.

If you can boot the small setup system and your hard drive is detected
by 'fdisk -l /dev/hd? /dev/sd?', you can then get "looplnx.tgz".

Before you do anything read "howto.install.looplinux" at the site below,
for installation instructions.

The looplinux kernel is version 2.2.16 or later.
Looplinux is a 100% libc6 glibc 2.2 system.
You need at least a 386 cpu and 8mb of ram to use looplinux.
Preferably you should have at least a 486dx cpu and 16mb of ram.

LinuxCertified.com offers the weekend system administration
bootcamp for busy IT professionals

- - All attendees get a free Linux laptop!

 Media Contact:
info@linuxcertified.com
http://www.linuxcertified.com/

LinuxCertified.com, a leading provider of Linux training, will
offer its next weekend system administration bootcamp on January
20-21, 2001 in San Francisco bay area (south bay). This
workshop is designed for busy information technology profession-
als and is designed to cover the most important Linux administra-
tion areas.

In addition to carefully designed lecture material delivered by
experienced Linux professionals, there is a heavy emphasis on
hands-on learning. The training starts two weeks before the actu-
al class, with access to an online Linux server, where students
complete few challenging pre-class activities. Attendees get a
powerful Linux laptop on their arrival, along with other class
materials. They load Linux on their laptop during the class, and
use it for all the class activities and assignments. At the end
of the class they take this laptop with them to further enhance
their Linux expertise. Absolute beginners with no UNIX experience
can first come to the popular "Linux for Beginners" class and
subsequently join the system administration bootcamp.

Rapid growth of Linux into corporate and government IT environ-
ments is fueling the need for Linux certified professionals. CIOs
and managers are eager to have Linux experts in their organiza-
tions. A certification provides a tangible mechanism for their
hiring evaluation, as well as a means to market the prowess of
organizations.

"As an independent IT consultant I am always on my toes to learn
new technologies, without much free time to devote to classes.
The LinuxCertified.com bootcamp was a perfect way for me to jump-
start my Linux knowledge. I can now use Linux as a valuable
tool in my career," said Taylor Cottam, an independent consultant
who joined one of the LinuxCertified.com weekend bootcamps.

This weekend bootcamp is specially designed to prepare the at-
tendees for the objectives of Level 1 certification exams offered
by Linux Professional Institute (LPI). The workshop also meets
the objectives of the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) exam and
Sair Linux & GNU certification (LCA).

Our attendees build a strong sense of community with our instructors,
fellow students, and our network of recruiters and companies
looking for Linux consultants.

About LinuxCertified.com

The mission of LinuxCertified.com is to bring Linux to mainstream
IT usage. We firmly believe that Linux has an enormous potential,
once it crosses over from the early adopters to the more mainstream
users. Our goal is to help this transition by providing:

- - Linux trained and certified professionals

- - Linux certified products that cater to mainstream users rather
   than early adopters.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TelcoSoft, Inc. announces the availibility of Extensys 1.0.2

TelcoSoft, Inc is pleased to announce the availibility of Extensys 1.0.2
for the Linux x86, SCO Unixware and Alpha Tru64 UNIX platforms. First,
we wish to thank all the folks who registered for Free Extensys in
response to our earlier announcements.

What is Extensys ?

Extensys is a powerful and complete environment for developing and
deploying production-grade communications applications in a distributed
environment. Using Extensys, a C++ software developer can develop
complex and robust communications applications at a rapid pace without
a deep understanding of the underlying devices, protocols and practices.
When these applications are deployed, the services provided by these
applications can be accessed by the end-users (or subscribers) either
from a telecommunications network (via phone) or from the service
providers web site. For more information on Extensys, please visit our
web site at:

        http://www.telcosoft.com

Free Extensys

In order to encourage the development of
communications/telecommunications applications using Extensys, we have
made a free version of Extensys available from our web site. The free
version must be used for development purposes only and there is a
separate license for commercial use. Free Extensys is a fully functional
software load except that it limits the number of voice ports that can
be used by applications to 4. The license for the free version expires
in 180 days and thereafter, it can be renewed repeatedly from the
TelcoSoft web site. The renewal ensures that you have the latest version
of the software running on your development system.

TelcoSoft also plans to make a number of popular telecommunications
applications available for free downloads. We use an open-source model
for these applications and they can be used freely in modified or in
their original form by anyone. Currently, there are two applications
that are available from our FTP site. They are:

 E-mail Reader Application

A telecommunication application that allows subscribers to listen to
their e-mail messages over the phone. A
subscriber can register and unregister for this service using a web
interface. This application requires voice boards
from supported vendors as well as other third-party software. For
details check out

http://www.telcosoft.com/docs/tsemr_guide.pdf
 Mailing List Application
A communications applications that allows providers to host one or more
mailing lists. Mailing lists can be added by
the administrators using the Extensys OAMP interface. For details
check out

http://www.telcosoft.com/docs/tsmls_guide.pdf

More applications will be added in the next releases.

What is new in Extensys 1.0.2 ?

(1) Support for 64 bit UNIX operating systems. You can now download and
run Extensys for TRU64 UNIX operating system running on Compaq
Alphaservers.

(2) We have simplified the process of installing the various Extensys
packages. It is now more logical and easy to understand. Please check
out the Extensys installation howto and FAQ for details.

(3) The telecommunications services have been redesigned to add more
robustness. Please refer to the new Extensys Telecommunications
Reference Manual for details.

(4) Other miscellaneous changes and bug fixes.

From: nedu@netscape.net
Subject: eppio - command line EPP control utility
Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 15:00:32 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The 'eppio' utility provides a command-line interface directly to
enhanced parallel port hardware on a PC running Linux.

Developed to support a research group that needs to transfer data to and
from a FPGA circuit-prototype board, this utility may be useful to other
researchers, engineers, developers, students or hobbyists who want to
drive a peripherial device which communicates using IEEE 1284 EPP
protocol.

The command-line interface allows users to easily prototype and debug
higher-level device communications manually, or with a scripting
language.

Example Usage;

'eppio --write-address=1 --read-data --write-data=02ab --read-data=100'
'eppio -wa: 1 -rd -wd: 2 ab -rd: 100'

Both example commands do the same thing. They begin by writing a hex '1'
byte to the EPP address channel. Then they read a byte from the data
channel, and output it in hex to stdout. Then they write a hex '2' byte
to the data channel, followed by a hex 'ab' byte. And lastly, they read
hex 100 bytes from the data channel, with output again in hex to stdout.

Availability:

GNU GPL'd source is available from the utility's home page at
<http://www.scn.org/~nedu/eppio.html>
