PRESS RELEASE

NEW (OPEN SOURCE) GEOGRAPHICAL SEARCH ENGINE FROM GBDIRECT

GBdirect announce the release of a new platform-independent
geographical search engine called "Somewhere Near". It is initially
accessible via the web (at http://www.somewherenear.com), but will soon
be available via WAP phones and other wireless devices.

The site currently runs on a familiar combination of Linux, Apache and
MySQL. All development was done using robust free software tools
created by GBdirect themselves and by the open source community at
large.

At the moment, Somewherenear.com has two essential features. Firstly,
it positions any kind of place you search for on a map and, secondly,
it encourages users to add places to the database with their own
comments and votes (in the familiar slashdot style).

Right now, the live web site catalogues UK Pubs, Guest houses, Curry
houses and the like, but the search engine itself can handle any
geographical object in any part of the world.

Searching can be incredibly easy, e.g. you can just click on a map and
the database will respond by drawing you a new map showing the nearest X
places to the point where you clicked.

A superficial description of the search engine's origins is available at
http://somewherenear.com/about.htm

A full technical description of how the site was built will follow when
GBdirect release the engine's software under the GNU Public Lisense
(GPL), i.e. after it has been thoroughly de-bugged.

GBdirect are looking for potential partners and investors to take this
unique tool to the US and other territories.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Pinepgp is set of filters for pine which allows user to read/send signed
and/or encrypted messages using PGP and/or GnuPG.

Basic goal is to do it simple so pinepgp do not have fature set as rich as
pgp4pine. But existing functionality is enought for basic usage of
encryption in e-mails.

Significant changes since 0.12:
- - - info about signature and/or encryption added as footer at the end of
  e-mail (no need to hit return once more in order to view
  signed/encrypted messages)
- - - added filter for PGP 6.5.x
- - - added documentation
- - - filter configuration reverted back to "_LEADING" - "_BEGINNING" is
  not precise (if you have filters alredy set-up, make appropriate change
  in your pinerc)

More information is available at:

        http://www.megaloman.com/~hany/software/pinepgp/

(basic info, licence (GPL), download locations, instalation HOWTO, ...).

Sincerely

Peter Hanecak

Subject: Noteedit v1.3: export MusiXTeX
Date: Sat,  8 Apr 2000 11:22:40 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Version 1.3.0 of the note editor on Linux (GPL, very beta) is ready:

http://rnvs.informatik.tu-chemnitz.de/~ja/noteedit/noteedit.html

New features
============

export MusiXTeX

Other Properties
=================

   * insertion/deletion/modification of notes, rests, dotted notes, slured
     notes, clefs, time signatures, key signatures, beamed notes, triplets
     on different staffs;
   * building accords, undo, block copy, block delete,multi staff block copy,
     multi staff block delete;
   * playing on /dev/sequencer (if correctly configured) whereby:
        o giving each staff a different voice;
        o giving each staff a different channel;
        o highlighting the played notes;
        o setting midi tempo;
   * saving an restoring the files. The file format is similarily to the
     format of the music publication program (MUP):
        http://www.arkkra.com
     So you if you are a MUP user you have the possibility to convert
     the files into Midi and Postscript.

Because it is a Qt program I plan to transform it into a KDE
application (if ther is enough interest).

Planned
=======

*export Midi
*import Midi
*transpose

Conditions
==========

The program is tested on S.u.S.E.-Linux 6.2, Qt-2.0.2-13, and sound card
AWE-64. I used egcs-2.91.66.

You need the following packages:

   * g++ compiler
   * X11 (include and libraries)
   * Qt (include and libraries)

recommended:

   * LibKMid; see http://www.arrakis.es/~rlarrosa/libkmid.html

You can compile the program without LibKMid. But in this case an

        #include /usr/src/linux/include/linux/soundcard.h

occurs which can cause a lot of machine/sound card depencies. Therefore if
your sound doesn't work and you are sure Midi works on your machine (you use
KMid successfully) then try compilation with LibKMid!
