       are known to be complete:

       ftp://the-city.seas.upenn.edu/pub/mirrors/redhat/redhat-6.2/

For help with this release of Red Hat Linux, subscribe to the Zoot mailing
list by sending a message with a subject of "subscribe" to
zoot-list-request@redhat.com, or buy a Red Hat Linux boxed set and take
advantage of our support department.

The Zoot development team wishes to thank all of the developers who
contributed to this release, our beta testers, and everyone who reported
a bug or made a feature request.

Here's a (partial) list of new features in Zoot:

    - The system can now be installed onto a loopback file on a FAT
filesystem. This allows users to install Red Hat Linux onto an
existing partition rather then having to repartition their system.

    - The upgrade process recognizes Linux RAID arrays.

    - Better rescue mode on CD and NFS, allowing improved disaster
      recovery.

    - Networking services have had their client and server components split
into separate packages to improve sysadmin flexibility.

    - Pentium III support for improved performance

    - Workstation installs no longer install networking daemons

    - Many system daemons turned off by default

    - MesaGL now included

    - All man pages gzip'd

    - Added support for /etc/X11/xinitrc/xinitrd.d for X startup logic

    - Piranha clustering updates

        o web based GUI config
        o 2-node service failover support
        o generic service monitoring/loadblancing
o tunneling and direct routing support for IPVS

    - Beowulf-style clustering added

o PVM 3.4.3 (Parallel Virtual Machine)
o LAM 6.3.1 (MPI library environment)
o make-pvm (PVM aware version of GNU make)
o (Please note that mpich-1.2.0 is now part of PowerTools for Red Hat
           Linux 6.2.)

    - Automatic support for up to 4 gigabytes of RAM

    - ISDN configuration utility added

    - Encryption now included! Now that the US more closely resembles
a free country, all versions of Red Hat Linux include:

o Kerberos authentication for mutt, pine, fetchmail,
cvs, and imap. In addition, the following kerberos-aware
versions of the following clients have been added:

o Kerboros network clients included for rlogin, rsh, telnet, ftp
          in krb5-workstation package

o GNOME-based Kerberos configuration tools added

o GNU Privacy Guard (gpg) included

o Netscape with 128-bit encryption included

    - More beauteous vim included -- /usr/bin/vim supports syntax color
      and langauge-based indention

    - anacron used for many system jobs

    - termcap, terminfo, and various terms have been modified to support
the Debian Backspace Guidelines for Backspace and Delete, as well
as to make Home and End work consistently

    - DocBook support included

    - Colorized ls by default (remove /etc/profile.d/colorls.* to disable)

From: Jim Crook <crook@ar.com.au>
Subject: tdb: a text database tool - also ANSI to/from K&R C conversion
Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2000 11:34:47 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

A long time ago, I wrote a program I call tdb, for "text database". It
allows one to setup non relational databases consisting of text data and
metadata files, and then access the data using a query language.

The language itself is of less interest to me than the data access
methodology. If you're interested, have a look; I'd like to hear any
constructive feedback.

The C source code, as well as some documentation, examples, and a
reasonably comprehensive test suite can be found on my web page,
http://www.ar.com.au/~crook . There's a README file there, but briefly,
here's what you'll need to do:

1. A. Download the source and compile it. -
or -
     B. Download one of the executables I've already built.

2. Download the documentation, test files and examples.

3. Try it.

I have built executables for the following platforms: AIX_4.3_rs6000,
HPUX_10.01_S800 (also works on 700, 10.20 and 11.00),
DEC_UNIX_4.0_alpha, SunOS_5.5_sparc, Linux_5.1_Intel and
ULTRIX_4.4_risc.

In the process of all this, I wrote a couple of shell scripts that
convert my C code[*] from ANSI C to K&R C (or vice versa). I've found
these to be particularly useful on HP-UX systems (which is supplied with
a K&R C compiler) - especially before gcc came along.

For the security conscious, root access is _not_ required.

[*] These scripts are based assumptions about the way I write C, if you
violate them, you'll have to modify the scripts.

Subject: LTOOLS V4.5 - Reading and Writing Linux Files from Windows 9x/NT
Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2000 11:35:42 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

LREAD V4.5

LREAD is a tool suite for Windows 9x and Windows NT (or DOS or Windows
3.x for those who still have it) for accessing files on Linux harddisks
(Linux's native Extended 2 filesystem).

The tools allow to list directories, to copy files from Linux to DOS and
to copy files from DOS to Linux. You also can delete files or modify
access rights of Linux files from DOS/Windows.

The LTOOLS can either be used from the command line, but also have two
graphical user interfaces. You can either use your web browser to view
your Linux directories or files or you can use a new Java Swing (JDK
1.2) based graphical user interface, which provides a Windows Explorer
like view of your filesystem.

The most recent version of the LTOOLS suite can be found on
                http://www.it.fht-esslingen.de/~zimmerma/software/ltools.htm

In combination with an included simple server program, you can also
access your files from a remote client over the net (however, this might
be a security risk, as access protection in this case is rather simple).

The package includes binaries for DOS/Windows 9.x and for Windows NT as
well as source code. The package is copyrighted by me, but may be freely
distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Subject: COMMERCIAL: Leading hardware integrator ASL switches to Linux-Mandrake.
Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2000 11:36:46 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

ASL, the second largest Linux hardware-solutions provider, has
announced today its decision to adopt Linux-Mandrake after 5 years of
using Red Hat. The decision was based on the overall superiority of
the Linux-Mandrake distribution, specifically in the areas of hardware
performance.

"Linux-Mandrake is an extremely high quality distribution. But most of
all, Linux-Mandrake delivers the performance that clearly
distinguishes itself from the rest of the Linux distributions. With
pentium-optimizations, our applications have shown speed improvements
up to 30%. Linux-Mandrake is clearly the perfect Linux distribution
for ASL high performance workstations and servers." said Jeff Nguyen,
President & CEO of ASL Inc. He also said "with its high degree of
compatibility, the transition to Linux-Mandrake is very smooth and
easy."

This is a major step in large-scale deployments of Linux-Mandrake. We
are very excited to have reached the point where our product is
considered the best choice for ease of use and also for its
performance advantages.

Linux-Mandrake is the only major Linux distribution optimized for
Pentium processors. In addition to standard performance increases
between 15% and 30%, recent studies show that depending on the
processor used and the flags specified when compiling software under
Linux-Mandrake, speed gains of up to 1150% are possible. Complete
results will be published soon.

# - autodetects number of data columns
# - handles column titles if supplied
# - uses default column titles if not supplied
# - handles captions if supplied
# - tries to be smart about captions if not supplied (most recent comment)
# - handles column layout if supplied
# - uses smart default layout if not supplied
# - handles table reference labels if supplied
# - uses (commented out) smart default labels if not supplied
# - diagnostic messages are printed on STDERR
# - if STDOUT and STDERR are the same pipe the result is still valid TeX
# - turns gnuplot comments into TeX comments
# - keeps a reference to the source file and conversion script

and limitations:
# - long tables must be splitted by hand to fit on a page

And of course it's under GPL. You can get it from:

Enjoy,

Karsten
