HP Releases Enhancement Pack for OpenMail 6

Key Enhancements Solidify HP's OpenMail Momentum

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that it is releasing its first
Enhancement Pack (EP1) for OpenMail(1) 6, one of the leading business
messaging/collaboration e-services solutions for Linux and UNIX(R)
systems. The Enhancement Pack introduces a number of new features that
meet key customer needs and further solidifies OpenMail's position as
the low-cost alternative to other business messaging systems.

OpenMail 6 EP1 includes the following features:

   * Web client extensions—including "portal" access (which
automatically chooses the correct OpenMail server for the user),
     plus the option to disable the inbox and/or public folders;
   * Personal Administration Wizard (PAW) -- an add-on to enable end
users to set server rules and other personal configurations via the
     Web;
   * extensions to OpenMail's existing mailbox size restrictions—
including usage-barring sanctions, which force users to limit their
     disk-space usage;
   * virus cleaning—enhanced integration with Trend Micro's "ScanMail
for OpenMail" product (in addition to OpenMail's existing support
     for virus blocking);
   * enhanced S/MIME public key infrastructure (PKI) support for IMAP4
and Microsoft® Outlook MAPI desktops, through integration with
     Entrust Technologies' product line; and
   * the ability to configure up to 32 million users per server.

"HP continues to build momentum in its support of the Linux community
with the increased functionality of OpenMail 6 EP1," said Nigel Upton,
general manager of HP's OpenMail business. "These features take
OpenMail's proven functionality to a new level and make it one of the
most efficient business messaging solutions available today."

OpenMail 6 offers reliability for business users, and a low cost of
ownership that is substantially better than competitive offerings. In
addition to robust Internet e-mail standards support, OpenMail includes
high-functionality support for Microsoft Outlook's collaboration
features (including calendaring, scheduling, delegation and public
folders) and OpenMail 6's functionally rich Web client.

In August 1999, HP introduced its OpenMail 6 solution for Linux users.
The response was tremendous, prompting attendees of the LinuxWorld
Conference and Expo to honor the solution with the "Top Product—Best of
Show" award. Since that time, HP has continued to gain support for
OpenMail 6, winning new UNIX system customers, such as the University of
Russian Railways (20,000 users), as well as new Linux customers,
including First American Network, Inc. In addition, AT&T Corp. recently
(Jan. 24) announced that it is using OpenMail to provide outsourced,
mission-critical messaging/collaboration e-services for businesses.

"The administration, flexibility, speed and stability of this product is
unmatched, in my opinion," said Jeff Mays, network manager for First
American Network, Inc. "OpenMail 6 has been a dream come true for us."

"OpenMail is a leading UNIX system business messaging and collaboration
solution, and we are focused on being the market leader for the growing
number of Linux-based businesses," Upton said.

Pricing and Availability

OpenMail 6 EP1 is scheduled to be available this month for Linux,
HP-UX(2), AIX and Solaris users. It will be available free to existing
OpenMail customers with current subscription contracts.

Subject: NEdit 5.1 Text Editor Beta, First GPL Release!
Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 23:41:22 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

NEdit is a popular Unix text editor which combines a simple and
standard graphical user interface with the thorough functionality and
stability required by users who edit text (or code, html, scripts,
etc.) eight hours a day.

While NEdit is well known in the proprietary Unix world, it is not so
well known to users of Free operating systems, like Linux. Its former
license and reliance on Motif libraries have kept it off of the major
Linux distributions, so most Linux users have not yet seen NEdit, or
have only seen unstable versions of it linked with early Lesstif
releases.

With recent releases of Lesstif (.89.4 and beyond), NEdit built with
Lesstif is now very close to the reliability it has historically had
under Motif. The entire package of NEdit + Lesstif is now 100% GPL
software.

NEdit's command set is as thorough as emacs, and includes a macro
language with a complete library of editing functions, state-of-the-
art syntax highlighting for all major languages, and all of the
special functionality that programmers need to be productive. Unlike
emacs, however, nedit has a straightforward graphical user interface
which makes both new and experienced users more productive. It also
has the best support for mouse interaction of any Unix text editor,
with features like WYSIWYG draggable selections, secondary quick-
action selections, fully integrated rectangular selection, and
maximum compatibility with the surrounding X Window System environment.

If you're interested in beta-testing, or contributing, or you just want
to browse the new features, please stop by the new NEdit web site at:
http://nedit.org.

enthuse people for Linux?

We are looking for speakers and workshop tutors as well as life
demonstrations. The Brunswick Linux-Days want to offer the whole
spectrum from the absolute beginner's level up to the experienced user
and professional. Due to increasing importance of free software for the
society also non technical talks are welcome. There is no limit in the
variety of topics.

Please send your abstract (maximum 20 lines a 80 characters) to
linuxtage-programm@escape.de (contact: Matthias Grimm
(joker@cymes-bs.de)). Kindly include the following details:

  - title
  - your full name
  - your postal and email address and telephone number
  - main focus
  - level: beginners, users or professionals
  - necessary aids: computer, overhead projector etc.
  - any special requirement concerning the time of presentation (only

For each talk/presentation we have scheduled 55 minutes including time
for questions and discussion. In case you are in need of some extra time
for a complex topic or a workshop, please contact the organizer-team for
an individual solution. Please remark your time requirement in your
abstract.

Linux benefits from all those enthusiastic people who have pushed it
forward and had a part in its great success. We refund traveling costs
for
each speaker and if needed, we will help to find accommodation.

Subject: R statistical environment 1.0.0
Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 23:44:23 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statistical analysis environment "R" version 1.0.0 is released
- --------------------------------------------------------------

R, also known as "GNU S", is a language and environment for
statistical computing and graphics. R implements a dialect of the
award-winning language S, developed at Bell Laboratories by John
Chambers et al. It provides a wide variety of statistical and
graphical techniques (linear and nonlinear modelling, statistical
tests, time series analysis, classification, clustering, ...).

R is designed as a true computer language with control-flow
constructions for iteration and alternation, and it allows users to
add additional functionality by defining new functions. For
computationally intensive tasks, C and Fortran code can be linked and
called at run time.

R is easily extensible using a package library system and a
wide-ranging and extensive set of contributed packages are available
from the Comprehensive R Archive Network (http://cran.r-project.org
and mirrors), from where the software itself can also be fetched,
presently in source form but in due course also as binaries for the
most common platforms: Linux, the main commercial Unix versions,
and Win32.

R was initially written by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman, who are
Senior Lecturers at the Department of Statistics of the University of
Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand. In addition, a large group of
individuals has contributed to R by sending code and bug reports.

Since mid-1997 development has been in the hands of an international
core group (the "R Core Team") who can modify the R source code CVS
archive. The group currently consists of Doug Bates (USA), Peter
Dalgaard (Denmark), Robert Gentleman (NZ), Kurt Hornik (Austria), Ross
Ihaka (NZ), Friedrich Leisch (Austria), Thomas Lumley (USA), Martin
Maechler (Switzerland), Guido Masarotto (Italy), Paul Murrell (NZ),
Brian Ripley (UK), Duncan Temple Lang (USA), and Luke Tierney (USA).

The release of a current major version indicates that we believe that
R has reached a level of stability and maturity that makes it suitable
for production use. Also, the release of 1.0.0 marks that the base
language and the API for extension writers will remain stable for the
foreseeable future. In addition we have taken the opportunity to tie
up as many loose ends as we could.

A new version of the KDE ALPHA binaries are available
at nebsllc.com. Please read the README file in the
same directory.

These binaries are built from CVS as of 28 February
2000 at 8am Eastern Standard Time (-0500). Korganzier
has been merged with kdepim so korganizer package is no
longer present. Abbrowser did not compile so it is not
in the kdepim package.

There has been an update to the qt-copy and you will
need to get a new version. The experiment with the
small version of qt-copy did not work, so we are back
to one version.

These files are available via ftp from:

ftp://ftp.nebsllc.com/kde2/current

or via http at:

http://www.nebsllc.com (follow links for kde2 Alpha
binaries)

You will also be able to find these at:

http://www.htw-dresden.de/~s2697

The installs have been tested by me on a RedHat 6.1
machine. They have also been reported to work on all
other distributions.

If you are running prior Alpha's I highly recommend you
update. There are a lot of fixes and some structural
changes in the packages.

You will also find Source tar.gz's in the same
directory.
