Subject: xtem X11-TeX-Menu version 7.03
Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 23:19:00 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
dear xtem users,
we have finished the new version (xtem_TeXMenu 7.03) of
"xtem", an X11-TeX-menu
which runs with new Tcl/Tk/TclX (Tcl 8.1 and Tcl 8.2)
as well as with old versions (Tcl 7.6 and Tcl 8.0).
in addition to adapting xtem to new versions of Tcl/Tk, we have done
error corrections and added new features, such as:
- - the installation procedure was splitted into two parts: the basic
installation (running in batch), and the setting file modification
(comfortable menu)
- - mkcommand.vst normally will be adapted to new Tcl version automatically,
- - the main file list in the file selection menu can be reduced to display
only TeX files having a \documentclass or \documentstyle command,
- - hyphenations can be removed from the displayed list by mouse click,
removed hyphenations will not be added to the list of already checked
hyphenations,
- - the list of checked hyphenations can be sorted alphabetically,
- - logfile-analyze is followed by makeindex-analyze now,
- - printers in the printer selection menu can now be sorted alphabetically
(see new variable prtlistsort in setting file install.vst),
- - URL links in LaTeX syntax help to the local teTeX TeX/LaTeX
documentation (if available) and to TUG-TeX-FAQ's,
- - TeX-autostart (at the moment when edit file or main file is modified)
is available as new option (new variables: texautostrt and
texautostrtv in file install.vst).
as usual you can get all material (including the source code of
Tcl/Tk/TclX we used) from our ftp server:
http://www.iwd.uni-bremen.de/xtem/xtem_texmenu.html
or
ftp://ftp.iwd.uni-bremen.de/pub/tex/xtem.v7/xtem_texmenu.7.03.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.iwd.uni-bremen.de/pub/tcl/*.tar.gz
you will find the xtem material on the CTAN servers:
tex-archive/support/xtem_texmenu/xtem.v7
xtem provides for a simple and comfortable graphical user interface (GUI)
to control the following TeX/LaTeX facilities:
- - syntax including examples of the LaTeX commands
- - file and directory selection, directory creation
- - editor (vi, emacs, ...) including additional windows for the
LaTeX-syntax (using hypertext) and examples
- - TeX, LaTeX, ... (including display of a summary of hyphenations
occuring at the specific TeX run)
- - previewer (ghostview, xdvi, TkDvi, ...)
- - printing (including comfortable printer selection, ...)
- - syntax and spelling check
- - makeindex
- - bibtex
- - additional programs as required
online help is available for all the buttons and windows by simple mouse
click.
English or German language by choice, other languages may easily be
adapted
xtem is written for Unix platforms and has been tested on many systems.
It requires Tcl, the appropriate Tk and TclX.

PACT - "Port Accounting and Collection Tool" - is a software package to
do complete port accounting for SNMP-manageable devices like routers,
hubs, and switches. Administration is done using an HTML interface with
dynamic data fed through PHP and MySQL database backend.
The following changes have occured since the last announcement (0.6):
V0.7 - 26.2.2000
- added new field to hosts to allow for system-specific functions
(needed e.g. for Novell servers due to non-unique port names)
- web-pages updated to allow editing this field
- field length for port names extended to 32 byte

I wrote a Perl script that generates reference in TEX or HTML format
for a set of files containing C-style structure and function
declarations. It uses comments that precede declarations as the help
text for each entry. Since it is the thesis season, I thought someone
could use this program.
You can get it from:

If there are any suggestions or improvements, I would appreciate

Subject: gpart-0.1f - Guess PC-type hard disk partitions
Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 23:32:47 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
A small update of my gpart tool. Changes since version 0.1e:
- Default scan increment 'h' again.
- Fixed wrong head-boundary condition.
- Introduced possibility to edit guessed partitions.
- Scan now starts on (sectors/head) unless -k <start> was given.
- Length of guessed NTFS partitions now includes NTFS backup boot
sector created by NT4.
Because of the second point I recommend updating to this version
instead of using version 0.1e which possibly left out extended
and primary partitions it could have guessed properly. Please
test it.
Gpart now supports post-editing guessed partitions. Note that
gpart itself is not meant to be an fdisk substitute, no checks
are performed on entered values.
On the primary site a statically linked Linux binary is provided
for those who cannot compile due to momentary partition shortage.

Title: gpart

or deleted. The guessed table can be written to a

partition types: DOS/Windows FAT, Linux ext2 and
swap, OS/2 HPFS, Windows NTFS, FreeBSD and Solaris/x86

*** web2ldap.py 0.7.2 ***
HI!
I would like to announce a new version of web2ldap, a full-featured
LDAPv2+ client written in Python designed to run as web gateway.
It's available for free (GPL) from
http://www.web2ldap.de/
There's a demo up and running:
http://www.web2ldap.de/demo.html
I would like to encourage users to heavily test this gateway and
report success or problems to feedback@web2ldap.de. You might want
to use the feedback form on
http://www.web2ldap.de/feedback.html
as a template for a mail.
Thanks a lot.
Ciao, Michael.
Changes since 0.7.0:
- - Added button downloading DSML-formatted directory data. (Very
preliminary and primitive implementation of a DSML level 1 producer.
This needs testing!).
- - Fixed bug with LDIF data containing non-ASCII characters. All
values containing non-ASCII characters are BASE64-encoded now.
- - Cleaned up password setting and added support for SMD5 and SSHA
hash types. Also hash types can be restricted in the per-host
configuration.
- - Stand-alone mode delivers static documents from
web2ldapcnf.document_root now.
For more details see: http://www.web2ldap.de/doc/changes.html

Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 23:38:45 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
PIKT, Problem Informant/Killer Tool, version 1.9.0
HIGHLIGHTS: Ported to OpenBSD. Implemented macro arguments. Added
a new alert timing parameter, "drift", for random scheduling around a
central time (or times). Speeded up piktc preprocessing. Made
adjustments to accommodate "standard library" config files written to
support all operating systems. Fixed a bug where, for some piktc
operations, duplicate file names with different file paths were not
being handled properly. Fixed a bug where, for FreeBSD, fork()'ed
piktds would hang on _exit(). Fixed a script parser bug. Made many
other code improvements.
"This is by far one of the most interesting/powerful tools I have
seen for Linux administration... an extremely interesting tool."
--Kurt Seifried, Linux Administrators Security Guide
(https://www.seifried.org/lasg)
PIKT, an innovative new paradigm for administering heterogeneous networked
workstations, is a multi-functional tool for monitoring systems, reporting
and fixing problems, and managing system configurations. PIKT is quickly
gathering potential as a serious security management system. PIKT comprises
an embedded scripting language with unique, labor-saving features; a
sophisticated script (and system config file) preprocessor, scheduler, and
installer; and other useful tools. Like a Swiss Army Knife, PIKT is a
category buster with many, many different uses limited only by your
ingenuity and imagination.
PIKT is distributed under the GNU General Public License. Available now
