MEETING NOTICE
==============

  Central Ohio Linux Users Group

            Wed., 29 December 1999, 19:00 to 21:00 local

Meeting Presentation
====================

The main presentation:

Our own Chad Cunningham will detail his successful effort
in reducing support load at a former site which he
sysadminned. The department at The Ohio State University
for whom he worked was having problems with its NT, and
its authentication and fileservice functions. Chad did
research, and dropped in SAMBA on a *nix platform, solving
the problems, and adding the capacity for reasonable
remote administration.

He will discuss issues including setup, permissions and
authentication, heterogeneous Windows/Unix password
synchronization, and more.

Next Month: Ed Helwig on TCL

As always (both with the informal nature of the group's
`management' and the vaguries of the presenters' schedules),
the agenda and content are subject to change.

MEETING SITE:
=============
This month's meeting will be held at:

        TEAM America (http://www.teamamerica.com)
        110 East Wilson Bridge Road

        (614) 848-3995

The building is at US23 North and 270 off of
East Wilson Bridge Road just around the first
        curve.

Parking is FREE !

.... The group has met on the LAST Wednesday or LAST Saturday
of a month, alternating by month to allow more folks to mesh
their schedules with COLUG's. Sites and dates also depend
on facility availabity, with common-sense relocation in the
holiday season.

The webpage always has a link to a map to the upcoming meeting
site. See: http://bopper.wcbe.org/~COLUG/html/meetings.html

Meeting Schedule
================

The NEXT meeting is scheduled on WEDNESDAY, 26 January 2000
19:00 to 21:00 local -- Location is up in the air -- we've

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

There is a new release of the Cyclom-Y and Cyclades-Z Linux driver
available for free download at:

http://www.cycladescard.com in the Tech support section

Package Version : 6.5.5 (2000/01/19)
 - Kernel version : 2.2.x
        Driver Version : 2.1.3.5 (2000/01/19)
        FW version (Z only) : 3.3.1 (1999/09/24)
 - Kernel version : 2.2.x / 2.3.x
        Driver Version : 2.3.2.5 (2000/01/19)
        FW version (Z only) : 3.3.1 (1999/09/24)

Changes from previous version (6.5.1):
 - Fixed bug in cy_set_termios on CRTSCTS flag turnoff.
 - Fixed SMP locking in Cyclom-Y interrupt handler.

Comments:
This driver fixes a bug that would make Cyclom-Y ports on SMP systems
gradually lose performance until they don't transfer data at all. This
problem would only happen in SMP systems.

Special thanks to Beltran Cambronero at Cyclades for the details

Description:

WCD is a fast directory changer, another Norton Change Directory

This program jumps to a (sub)directory anywhere in the directory-tree.
(Unix: or to directories on other accounts.) The directory to jump to

Also a part of the preceding path can be given. Eg. wcd src*/wcd

  - Lets the user choose in case of multiple match
  - Wildcards *, ? and [SET] supported
  - directory stack, push pop
  - Subdir definition possible. Eg. wcd subdira/subdirb
  - Long directory-names support in Win9x Dosbox and Windows NT console
  - Alias directories
  - Ban paths
  - Change disk and drive in one go (dos)
  - 'cd' behaviour. Eg. wcd ../../src will work.
  - Free portable source-code (DOS 16/32 bit, win32, Unix), no special
    libraries
  - Supports: DOS 16 bit, DOS 32 bit, DOS bash
    Windows 3.1/95/98/NT DOS-box
    Cygwin bash
    Win32 Z shell
Unix csh, ksh, bash and zsh

Wcd has been tested on: FreeDOS, MS-DOS 6.2, Win95, Win98,
Windows NT 4.0, Linux, BSD, HP-UX, SunOS, Solaris, SGI IRIX.

Hi. Just to let you know that I'm not working anymore for
AppWatch. You can read what John said at the site, in the
README file, but it's not the truth of course. He's now only
interested in selling the site, and just removed my access
without any reason. You know how hard I was working on it, and
that I never tried to make money on top of it, but we had an
agreement: I own 30% of the site. He host the site, so... I
just don't like to see people like him making bad things and
trying to convince our users that I wasn't professional. I
don't know about the future of AppWatch, but supporting only
Free Software / Open Source is nothing right now. AppWatch for
me is dead, like Freshmeat after Andover's acquisition. Too
bad.

Thanks for your time and support when I was working on this
"FREE" project.

I have a text in portugese about all the story at
http://olympiquedemarseille.org/. In some days I'll make an
english version. BTW, I own http://appwatch.org/. I had the
idea to register .net and .org, and John registered it in my
name. Of course he tried to transfer the domain for him, but I
refused. If you want more details, I'm fredlwm at
irc.brasnet.org too. You're welcome to reach me.

Hi folks!

I'm proud to announce a new version of KVocLearn. A tool for learning
vocabularies of foreign languages or learning in general (with
question-answer cards). It operates with knowledge grades for every
entry in order to provide ideal learning results.

Check it out on my homepage:
http://n.ethz.ch/student/dradovic/kvoclearn

There's an online help available too, so you have a look at it before
downloading.

Some of the new features in this version:

- - different font settings allow you to have different charsets for
foreign languages
- - new toolbar buttons for learning (thank you Martin ;-)
- - updated help files

I hope you will find use in this application. Good luck!

Dejan
