LinuxBusiness.com seeks Linux experience in business.
- ---
LinuxBusiness.com aims to build a huge repository of different ways to
use Linux in corporate environments.
If you use Linux in your corporation or belong to a service company that
has deployed Linux solutions for customers, please post your detailed
comments here:
http://www.linuxbusiness.com/en/bizform.html
The main goals of this project are to provide:
- - a repository where newcomers can pick up some representative
examples of what Linux can be used for.
- - a tool for people having adopted Linux (either at home, as a
consultant or as a service company) to report what they've
already achieved thanks to it.
- - resources to advocate linux solutions.
We're really convinced that this cooperative work could help everyone
that is looking for concrete testimonies or wanting to showcase its
own skill at using Linux in a demanding environment.
About LinuxBusiness.com: the LinuxBusiness initiative was started
in 1998 by Linux and OpenSource advocates that wanted to showcase
Linux potentialities in ``the real world''.
Alexandre Fornieles, for the LinuxBusiness team.

Subject: cacheprof -- finds cache misses in your programs
Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1999 00:02:41 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Cacheprof is a tool for finding the sources of data cache misses in
programs. It will annotate each line of source code with the number
of memory references and misses caused by that line, and also counts
instructions. This is very useful for finding performance anomalies
and for understanding the cache behaviour of algorithms. You can
specify the size, line size and associativity of the cache to simulate.
Cacheprof is designed to be easy to use. It works with the standard
GNU toolchain on x86-linux platforms. You do not need to reinstall or
reconfigure tools, nor any kernel modifications. At present C and
Fortran (gcc and g77) compilation works. Cacheprof is stable enough
to run the entire SPEC CPU95 benchmark suite; other large programs,
for example gcc (cc1) also work. Full documentation is supplied.
Cacheprof, version 0.1, is available under the GNU General Public
License (GPL), from http://www.cacheprof.org.

Hi,
I'm pleased to announce availability of Cyrus SML ACAP, version 0.2.
This is a full-featured, stable ACAP server, with multiple
authentication methods and compatibility with at least one shipping
application (the Mulberry e-mail client).
ACAP, the Application Configuration Access Protocol, is a remote store
for preferences, addressbooks, bookmarks, and other data useful to be
accessible for mobile users and across applications. It is described
in RFC 2244.
The Cyrus SML ACAP server is partially written in SML, a high-level
strongly typed functional language. Binaries for Linux and Solaris
are provided, and compiling SML/NJ should be straightforward.
Please send all bugs and/or comments to cyrus-bugs+@andrew.cmu.edu.
Discussion on the Cyrus acapd should be directored towards
info-cyrus@andrew.cmu.edu (subscribe info-cyrus-request@andrew.cmu.edu).
Thanks,
Larry

Title: ecasound
Version: 1.6.9r9
Entered-date: 15DEC99
Description: Ecasound is a software package designed for multitrack
audio processing. It can be used for simple tasks like
audio playback, recording and format conversions, as
well as for multitrack effect processing, mixing,
recording and signal recycling. Ecasound supports a
wide range of audio inputs, outputs and effect
algorithms. Several open-source audio packages, like
for instance ALSA, OSS, mpg123, lame, libaudiofile and
MikMod, are directly supported. One of the advantages
of ecasound's chain-based design is that effects can easily
be combined both in series and in parallel. Oscillators
and MIDI-CCs can be used for controlling effect
parameters. Included user-interfaces are ecasound -
a versatile console mode interface, qtecasound -
a Qt-based X-interface and various command-line utils
suitable for batch processing.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Current release: 0.8.5 (1999-12-14)
Source code (Licence: GPL) and some screenshots available on
http://home.sol.no/~espensa/khexedit/
Khexedit is a versatile and customizable hex editor. It displays
data in hexadecimal, octal, binary and text mode. New input can be
inserted into the file or it can replace current data just like
in a common text editor. Undo/Redo functionality is included as
well as formatted printing and HTML export. Supports XDND. KHexEdit
is designed to integrate into the KDE environment but can be used as a
standalone program as long as the KDE and Qt libraries are installed on
your computer. Both Qt-2.x and Qt 1-4x are supported.
Here is the full list of changes for this release:
* Bugfix: If a file was reduced in size saving it would not
truncate the file. This is now rectified.
* Bugfix: Search and replace could end up in an endless
loop for certain strings.
* New features: Qt 2.x/KDE-2 version only
+ Optional tabbar that displays open files.
+ Support for Wheel mouse
+ The Printer dialog will now ensure that the selected printer is
visible when displayed the first time.
+ Some adjustments to meet KDE styleguide recommendations.

Subject: PB and PG v.1.3 - programs for communicating with Microsat satellites
Date: Tue, 21 Dec 1999 23:58:25 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I have uploaded version 1.3 of PB and PG for Linux to Metalab.unc.edu.
The file name is pbpg-1.3.tar.gz. I have placed the file and the
accompanying lsm-file in /pub/Incoming/linux. The target directory is
/pub/linux/apps/ham.
The file may also be downloaded from
ftp://ftp.amsat.org/amsat/software/Linux/pbpg-1.3.tar.gz.
The updated documentation is found in the file named README.
A few errors have been corrected:
- - A packaging error which resulted in an overly optimistic downlink
efficiency.
The following improvements have been made:
- - The routines for download control are placed in a separate file
download.c.
If desired, these routines may be replaced by other routines. The only
requirement
is that the interface conventions - including the routine names -
must be
adhered to.
- - This has resulted in a new command line paramer and other additions.
Please
refer to the README file.
The following is believed to be an incorrectness:
- - Sometimes PB will send requests for directory fills when it is not
needed.
I have only seen this with AO-16 but it has been reported to happen
with KO-25 as well.
The lsm reads as follows:
