PRESS RELEASE
Thursday September 23, 1999
CoolKeyboards Corporation, manufacturers of the 'Linux Cool Keyboard'
announced today that they have just concluded negotiations with LinuxMall in
order for them to become the 'Worldwide Distribution Channel' for both their
current and future products.
In addition to this, CoolKeyboards Corporation also announced that they have
the following non-US keyboards available for distribution:
* German
* Japanese
* French
* Chinese
* Russian
* Arabic
* Spanish
According to the company's President, Keith P. Levey, he says, "We are so
pleased that design issues for our non-US models are ready so quickly. In
our
original projections, November was going to be our target." In addition to
the
non-US keyboards listed, CoolKeyboards Corporation is willing to provide
other
non-US versions upon request from distributors.
A conversation with Lisa Syken, company Vice President, reveals, "LinuxMall
was
the perfect choice for our 'Worldwide Distribution Channel', they have quite
a
history as far as servicing the Linux community, as well as all of the tools
already
in place to provide International wire-transfer services and overseas
shipping
methods."
In order to become a distributor, email CoolKeyboards directly at this
address,
distribution@coolkeyboards.com. The process for becoming a distributor is
painless

| Eridani Star System announces: |
`--------------------------------'
Eridani's Latest Red Hat 6.0 CD ----> £ 3.00 each.
Now includes XFree86-3.3.5!
We also have available:
Linux-Mandrake 6.0 -----------------> £ 3.00 each.
(Mandrake 6.1 available from us next week!)
Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 2CDROM set ----> £ 5.00 per set.
Red Hat Powertools 6.0 -------------> £ 3.00 each.
Eridani CDROM with Red Hat 5.2 -----> £ 3.00 each.
Red Hat Powertools 5.2 -------------> £ 3.00 each.
Linux-Mandrake 5.3 -----------------> £ 3.00 each.
The install CDROMs include an El Torito boot record, which, on supported
hardware make them bootable.
The Red Hat 6.0 CDs are made to order, and as such, will have all the Red
Hat updates to that time on the CD. Rather than having them in a separate
updates directory, we have opted to make them part of the install, so you
automatically have an up-to-date Linux system.
A large amount of extra software has been included on the CDROM, including
Corel WordPerfect (FTP version) and Sun JDK 1.1.7 (for the programmers out
there). Also now included are xawtv and alevt (for bttv-based TV cards), VNC,
SANE (scanner driver software), ALSA sound drivers, Speak Freely 7 and
SSH 1.2.27. Note this is not an exhaustive list!
These extras are stored separately to the main installation, and as such an
installation not using the extras uses only genuine Red Hat-sourced packages
giving a real, genuine Red Hat Linux installation.
A second CD is available, which contains all the source code. Red Hat Linux
is just too big now to have all the binaries and sources on the one CD.
This CD is also available, also for £ 3.00.
The Debian CD set is the Official Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 (slink) 2CD
distribution.
The Mandrake CDs are based on a Mandrake-sourced master.
For more information about the discs, and how to order, please visit our
Web site at:
http://linux.amush.cx
International orders accepted, but due to the cost of bank charges and
international mail, the prices will be slightly higher.
Sorry, we cannot accept credit cards. Cash (Pounds sterling preferred!)
and cheques drawn on a UK bank. International bank transfers accepted,
however subject to a £ 2.00 charge due to bank charges. There is a £ 1.50
charge for postage and packaging for up to 2 CDs within the UK, variable
for international customers.

Subject: Linux i18n project
Date: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 23:01:26 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
The Linux-Mandrake team is pleased to announce the
http://www.linuxi18n.org/ project.
This is a new project to provide a central point of contact between
programmers/project teams of free software, and translators/translation teams.
You may wonder why yet another project, there are already such projects
for such and such language, or such and such program/desktop. But, while
they are very important and surely fulfill correctly their
tasks, the scope isn't the same.
This project aims to be a central point for all possible free programs;
it could eventually serve as an intermediary to already constitued projects
or translation teams; but it would also allow the participation
of individuals, of little known free programs, etc.
Free softwares give, among other good things, the freedom to adapt a program
to the needs and customs of any culture and language of the world; the tools
to add the needed support for full translation to programs are there;
as well as the willing of a lot of potential translators.
But very often, with the exception of 2 or 3 big projects, there is a lack
of coordination, or a lack of knowledge on how to use those tools by the
programmers, or the translators don't know how or when to send new updated
versions of the localized texts, or some individuals want to participate
but are stopped by the complexity to having to get a full CVS tree and
compile the programs regularly, or a little free program isn't very known
and some translation teams never heard of it and is never translated,...
This project aims to address those problems, by creating a
"translation bazaar", where the texts to translate can be proposed, people
interested in doing the translation can pick them and send them back; by
automatizing most of the work and taking the burden of coordination away
of programmers and translators.
By my own experience and contact with various programmers and translators
I can say that such a service is currently really needed; but only very big
projects like KDE or Gnome can afford to have a similar service; and indeed
it is seeing the KDE and Gnome pages that I had this idea, but this time
open to all free projects and programs.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Development release 0.3.3 of the Linux Console Tools is now available
from http://www.multimania.com/ydirson/soft/lct/ and has been uploaded
to metalab, where it should soon appear in
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/keyboards/
Here are the release informations:
This is release 0.3.3 of the Linux console-tools.
This development release starts to add font-format independance to
the libs and programs, simplifying the consolechars(8) command-line,
and fixes a couple of small bugs.
We still need developers, and TRANSLATORS for message localization
(l10n). Please have a look to the WWW pages for a list of tasks, at:
among which l10n tasks are, at:
http://www.multimania.com/ydirson/en/lct/needed.html
http://www.multimania.com/ydirson/en/lct/l10n.html
This package is currently under development, use it at your own risks.
However, it should already be a good replacement for `kbd', and you
might like the features not found in the latter, but (as usual) you
have NO WARANTY of any kind.
Some interface-level features are still liable to change (program names,
option names, etc.).
Much work is still needed to really get Unicode stuff usable. Some
people have started fixing problems and implementing missing features
in the kernel's console drivers for this. Such kernel patches are
included as (untested) contrib items.
This package is based on `kbd-0.94', and is mostly up to date with
0.99, of which it corrects some bugs, and to which it adds several
features (Message i18n, Screen-font-map fallback tables, 16-bit
Application-Charset Maps (also called "console maps" or "screen maps",
support of more font-file formats), can use "-" to read/write most
files to stdin/stdout, can make use of the G1 charset slot, etc.).
Please send all bug reports, suggestions, or anything else to myself,
(but take a look at the "TODO" file first), feedback will be greatly
appreciated.
Please get in touch with me before starting to modify this package, to
prevent duplicated work - it's enough work to keep in sync with new
kbd releases until we merge; as this code is expected to evolve quite
rapidly, it would also be helpful that not too many persons work on
the same pieces of code at the same time, to ease integration.

Hello Linux Freaks!
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
A while ago I began to create a free Linux Research Center with
lots of links to useful documentations for the Linux Operating
System.
Right now this database has about 100 links and is still growing
day by day.
If you have any question on Linux just visit the Linux Research
Center at

Many Greetings,
