A Chapter I advise has the electric candles that have switches on them,
making the process a little easier. The room they use for pledge
inductions is in a 200-year-old building, so lit candles are not
allowed.
While we are on the subject, what is everyone's opinion of outdoor
ceremonies? I know of a few Chapters that hold outdoor pledging and
activation ceremonies (they are held in quiet areas with limited
exposure to nonmembers).

My Chapter uses electric candles (like those holiday ones that are
plastic with replaceable bulbs). Everything gets plugged in, but the
bulbs are slightly unscrewed at the start, and when needed, you simply
turn the bulb on when ready.
