What do you want to use these "redesigned" CoA's for? I think they are
fine for use on your own (or chapter's) website, but it appears from
other discussion that if you are trying to get general adoption in the
Fraternity as a whole, you've got a lot of resistance to overcome.
At 68x90 pixels, it's very hard to see any detail. If you have larger
versions, would you mind sending them to me (but probably not the
listserv) so I can see it better to make more detailed comments.
One thing I did notice: Traditional heraldry has a design rule of "no
color-on-color or metal-on-metal", which translates to not putting
dark-colored (red, blue, green, black, purple) designs on dark-colored
backgrounds, or light-colors (silver, gold) on light-colors. This
contrast rule eliminates most of the need for outlines. I can see why
you'd want to outline the gold stars, supporters, motto scroll, and helm
when you are on a white background in the first image, but the
outlines in black and white are not necessary and distracting (in my
opinion) in the second image. There is already sufficient contrast, in
my opinion.
The APO CoA violates the metal-on-metal rule in two places: the gold
sword on the silver/white diagonal, and the silver/white cross on the
gold field in the sub-arms. For a variety of reasons, I don't think we
should worry about correcting that.
