(historian hat from previous post comes off, my personal opinion is negative
for a change to the National, but if they want to use them for icons on a
chapter website, they shouldn't be chastised. But I'm an alumnus and most of
the votes that would be voting on a change are actives)
OTOH
Here are the things that I believe would be the largest financial cost to
the National Fraternity if the crest was changed at a national convention.
1) Concrete coat of arms outside door to National Office, but its already
incorrect (the triangles of drops are flipped, like the afghan/throws)
2) Merchandise, if the national office felt it needed to either discard all
merchandise with the old crest immediately *OR* if the alumni were so
against the change the national office felt it had to keep merchandise with
both old and new.
3) Changeover of recruitment pamphlets, which would have to speeded up
rather than only being reviewed every 5 years(?) or so.
4) Additional work to change National website.
Anyone got any other ideas?
Everything else is ephemeral. Pledge Manuals? Redone after every convention
anyway. Nametags? Bought by the individual board members.
