Well....
I sort of think we're doing the wrong thing for the first verse... This
is a Toast song, and it begins as a Toast: "Here's to Alpha Phi Omega",
yet we do nothing resembling toasting during it.
I grant you that standing, left hands at our sides, right hands extended
before us at eye level, holding an imaginary glass would probably
present the wrong image (visualize it, folks). But I could see, at the
beginning (or end) of a banquet, everyone singing the first verse
together, glasses raised in a toast.
The second verse begins with "Brothers Clasp the hands of Brothers" and
that's what we do. No problem there.
What action is suggested by the third verse presented below? Hmmm....
Singing... but we are already doing that -- and the second verse also
has the subtle voice-raising in the second half. Praising? Growing?
Joining? How do you symbolically do these things?
Perhaps...
Link our arms both men and women, Brothers all are we.
Hears as one we praise together, Our diversity.
Ever growing, ever learning, so that we may be
Joined in Alpha Phi Omega For Eternity
That gives us a direct action to follow, stresses the diversity and
bi-gendered nature of the Fraternity. I'm not sure I like it though.
There's something about the 2nd line that doesn't work for me.
