I'm on a mailing list that actually goes the other way. Posting anything
other than standard text is not allowed. (I wouldn't mind if APO-L went
that way) Is anyone on a mailer that they believe can not generate
standard 7-bit ascii only?
Here is a portion of the listrules governing what is not allowed for
innomine-l.
Anything non-ASCII. There are no real, universal email standards
and many people are still operating on straight ASCII email systems.
So, no MIME, HTML, binhex, Base 64, uuencoded, multi-part,
file-attachment, proprietary files, binaries, executable files,
pictures, bitmaps, HTML, PGP, ROTC-13, encrypted, Geekcoded,
bearcoded, x-coded anything, or HTML. Just the text in normal
typewriter keyboard letters and symbols in unscrambled, 7-bit English.
(Not 8-bit; 8-bit is interpreted differently in different programs.
What you think is a ... or em-dash or smartquote will show up as UGLY.)
Anything else can be put up on your web page and you can point us
to it. NOTE! Many, MANY, **MANY** emalers will send HTML BY DEFAULT!
You MUST configure your emailer to send plain ascii text by default,
to the list. The List Administrator will be happy to help you with
this. (Hint: check your Preferences.)
