Well, looks like I missed quite a time there, but at some time, ya gotta be
prepared to sit out a convention or other event. I do however intend to attend
my fourth Nationals at Philly, only 240 miles away from Troy, NY.
I apologize if my absence from this Convention caused any difficulty to any
committee that couldn't discuss proposals with me. I haven't had much feedback
save one from a member of Rules-Credentials. Please email me at vehlor@rpi.edu
if you have any information/questions/complaints/etc. Thanks.
I wish to congratulate Maine on securing Regionals and Philly for securing Nationals
for 1999 and 2000 respectively. I am sure that both will be excellent and
look forward to attending both.
I also just heard through second-hand information that EZ (my home chapter)
won its 3rd Nowotny. It really hasn't sunk in yet, but I am proud to serve
with this group of guys and gals for the past 11 years. Although my numbers
have usually fell short of the chapter average, the commitment to service by
my fellow brothers here has inspired me personally to make community service
more of a role in my life at my relative "old age" in APO, kinda like a
second wind of sorts. Way to go!
I also must say that in the conventions I've seen, the award usually went to
large chapters with diversified service programs. EZ currently only ranges
between 25 and 35 members, yet the chapter always is busy. Also, I don't know
how many applications were submitted by chapters for the award, but in the
past, I've heard of as low as 7, out of over 350 actives. I basically urge
all chapters, large and small, to take pride in your work, and to consider
applying for the award if you feel proud for the service you have accompplished.
Now I REALLY wish I was there!
See you all in Philly, if not before.
