I have been using BRU but was unhappy with the fact I can't fast seek any
file on the tape. I just this week tried the KDE X desktop and ran accross
a program called kdat. I have only done one backup with this program but
it looks like it has the features I found lacking in the other backup
programs. This program almost certainly has bugs and is a frontend for tar
so I don't know what its shortcomings are yet, but at first glance I'm
very impressed. Perhaps someone could fill me in on its "features" before
I get bitten.

Bob
