I no longer work for Sony  so I hope you'll take my recommendation as an unbiased one.
I worked with DDS drives for three years and my recommendation is:  for DDS2, Sony's
SDT-7000; for DDS3, Sony's SDT-9000.    Keep in mind that Sony's drives are OEMed
by DEC and DEC has one of the most thorough qualification cycles I've seen.

Furthermore, I know for sure that they work damn well with Linux.
