Had the same problem, found the answer on comp.os.linux.hardware

You need to patch to 2.0.35 then add the aic7xxx-5.1.0-2.0.35_patch
available from:
ftp://ftp.dialnet.net/pub/linux/aic7xxx/
A tip for Slackware 3.5 users (and maybe others?): you can use the SUSE
Linux boot image also available at the about ftp site to boot up a new system
and then a Slackware root image disk of your choice. Install from the CD and
reboot with the SUSE disk then select the option to start an installed
system. Then apply the patches, recompile, lilo and ...... cross your fingers :)
