The gentle people on linux-kernel had no comments
on this , May there be some input on linux-scsi ?

Subject: Really Ssslllllooooooowwwwwww lilo load of kernel.

Hello All, Yesterday I purchased a Diamond FirePort 40 .
It's easier to describe my present config than go thru the
history that lead to this .

symptom is an extremely slow (approx 5 minutes) load of the
kernel from sda1 at present both scsi controllers share
irq 9 . But the symptom is the same if they don't , I did
test this . The activity light remains lighted and then will
flicker and a few seconds another '.' will appear . But once
the system is up it is as responsive as ever . The present
configuration on the FP-40 is a supported configuration
according to the manual as long as nothing is attached external .

The present dmesg after my .sig & the present
	compile environment .
	patches: linux-2.0.36-alan-pre6 only.

	Now the description ,
	Main memory size: 128 Mbytes
	1 AuthenticAMD 586 processor
	2 16550A serial ports
	1 1.44M floppy drive
	no IDE devices .

slot #, description, devices attached ( all terminations are 'active' )
- PCI bus devices:
4 SCSI storage controller: NCR 53c875J (rev 4). (self-terminating)
  sda1	Quantum XP31070W (internal,wideconnector,terminated)
  sdb1	QUANTUM FIREBALL_TM2110S (internal,narrowconnector,terminated)

3 SCSI storage controller: NCR 53c810 (rev 18).(termination off)
  st0	EXABYTE EXB-8200 (external,terminate)
  sr0	PIONEER CD-ROM DR-124X (internal,terminate)

2 eth0 Ethernet: Intel 82557 (rev 1) Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100
1 VGA compatible controller: Cirrus Logic GD 5446 (rev 0).
IDE interface: Intel 82371 Triton PIIX (rev 2).
ISA bridge: Intel 82371 Triton PIIX (rev 2).
Host bridge: Intel 82437 (rev 2).

 				tia, JimL
