Hello,

I have an AMD K6-2/300 system is running RH 5.0 with
kernel 2.0.35, from RedHat's RPM images. I have
an Adaptec 2940U controller, with four devices on
the bus: two hard disks, a CD-ROM, and a Zip drive.

What I'm finding is that on boot, the scsi driver fails
to find the CD-ROM and the Zip drive:

[portuesi@jotabout ~]$ cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: QUANTUM Model: FIREBALL_TM3200S Rev: 300X
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: SEAGATE Model: ST1280 Rev: 4622
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
[portuesi@jotabout ~]$ mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/scd0 as a block device
       (maybe `insmod driver'?)
[portuesi@jotabout ~]$ mount /mnt/zip
mount: /dev/sdc1 is not a valid block device

I know there's not a hardware or cabling problem with
either drive, because I've used them successfully with
2.0.34 and earlier kernels. The CD-ROM and Zip
also work just fine with Windows 95 on the same machine.

If one boots into the W95, then back into Linux, the
Zip drive is found by the scsi driver, and is usable.
The CD-ROM, however, is still not found.

I've enclosed dmesg output from the kernel boot sequence, for
both the initial boot (drives not found) and a subsequent boot
after booting through W95.

Has anyone encountered this problem before, and can suggest
a fix?

dmesg output (initial boot, neither CD-ROM nor Zip found):
