Hi!

You´re quite right about the partiton-id having nothing to do
with the filesystem You create on it. However many OS depend
on which id the partion have in oder to recognize it directly without
using any crude probing which could lead to confusion.
And to clearify a few things: id 82 is designated "Linux swap", and
id 83 is known as "Linux native".
What the "Extended Linux" (id 85) is really for, I do not know.
Maybe someone more involved in this, could enlighten me?
