If I might suggest...
It sounds (looks) like you've got it recognizing the Adaptec controller
OK, however, it now looks like you've got cabling and termination
problems.  The Adaptec boards are known to be particular about cables
and termination - they won't work until you've got it right.  See below
for comments...

This is OK, means it's terminating at the controller though.  It's not
going to see much past the connector this way.

Believe this.

Here it's saying it's not seeing anything plugged into it.  A sign
something isn't right with the cabling.  Reseat all of the connectors. 
Then make sure that there is a terminator at the end of the SCSI chain
(or, if you can, set the last drive in the chain to terminate the bus -
usually requires jumpers on the drive)  If you're using any LVD drives
(I dont' think these are) with the ultra controllers, you need to use a
special cable with a differential terminator built into the end of it;
this is usually for ultra2 hardrives.

Here it's telling you that messages sent out on the bus aren't being
responded to correctly - once again I suspect termination.
