Okay, a little more progress. I have rechecked by cabling and termination.
Now a 'modprobe aic7xxx' gives me this:
aic7xxx: Warning - detected auto-termination on controller:
aic7xxx: <Adaptec AHA-294X Ultra SCSI host adapter> at PCI 11/0
aic7xxx: Please verify driver detected settings are correct.
aic7xxx: If not, then please properly set the device termination
aic7xxx: in the Adaptec SCSI BIOS by hitting CTRL-A when prompted
aic7xxx: during machine bootup.
aic7xxx: Cables present (Int-50 NO, Ext-50 NO)
aic7xxx: Termination Enabled

So, it still thinks no cables are present, but finds the devices on the
SCSI scan. I can mount them too. What gives? What about the BIOS
termination setting? Should it be set to auto, enabled, or disabled?
I have two devices on external cables, nothing internal. My guess is that
I should enable termination at the card, but do I have to do this with
this BIOS setting, or will the 'auto' setting do it for me?
