Just seen my original reply to appear via the list and my text seems to have
disappeared so I'll try again.

Hi Oscar,

I was running ncr53c8xx v2.6n without problems. Upgrading to 3.0/3.0a and
I've been having bursts of timeouts and a very slight data corruption but
nothing fatal. (3.0 is the last general release - 3.0a is experimental)

Timeouts generally occured while booting and while shutting down and only
once at another time - while news was expiring last night.

I'm using a SYM8951U but with Seagate Baraccuda ST15150N - single ended
10MB/s. This combination found a bug in the 895 code which was quickly fixed
- to do with initialisation back at the end of April - and since then has
behaved perfectly. I'm using the single ended drive as I can't afford to buy
an LVD drive just yet:(

This combination has been in use with the 2.6 driver for a couple of months
with no problems and with an 875 and 810a cards before that for at least a
couple of years - I've lost track of exactly how long;)

I have since reverted back to using 2.6n and the timeouts have gone.

Bye for now
Richard
