Error with SCSI-Tape

Hi folks,
i have this hardware:
+PII 266, 128MB
+DPT3334UW + 3 x 4.3 GB
+aic7880 + Tandberg TCD 3800 4/8 GB QIC-streamer ( /dev/st0 ) + 24x CD
TEAC
linux 2.0.33
i have this problem:
mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
tar cf /dev/nst0 File1
later
mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
mt -f /dev/nst0 fsf 1
tar rf /dev/nst0 ./dir1 ./dir2
Problem -> tar:cannot write to /dev/nst0: I/O error
dmesg says:

i want to write one file at the beginning of the tape for
fast-identifying the tape and append
different files or directories.
