Hi,
My appoligies if this is the wrong forum for this sort of question.
I work for a small company who want me to put them together a fast server.
The Server requires around 10 to 15 gig of HDD space and 4 CD roms.
I gather that SCSI is the best bus to use. Is this so?
The companys budget can cover a resonable system, does anybody have any
suggetsions on the best SCSI card, HDD Drives and CD Roms to use? I will
also need to find a suitable motherboard. Given the server doesn't need to
do much computation, just lots of reading and writing, can anyone suggest a
good model motherboard (and what processor) to use?
The budget for this project will be quite large, an extra couple of hundred
dollars is not a problem if it gives better performance.
The system will be using a PCI MPEG card that wont be supported under
linux, so will have to write a driver (I am a C++ programmer and have been
using linux as a getway for about a year now and love it). Does anyone
know if there is a good place to look for info on this (other than in the
source), any mailing lists or html info?
Thanks in advance,
Hamish Graham.
