250W is the maximum capacity of the power supply; that doesn't mean it will
draw that much with just a drive attached.  There is a small amount of
overhead, but you can probably put the drive back in the separate case and
you'll be fine.

Other alternatives:

. Get a smaller enclosure for the drive.

. Get a hard drive fan (the ones I've seen are called "Just Cooler" and cost
$10 or less) and mount the drive in an external bay with the drive fan
blowing on it.
