You need to force-blow air on at least two sides of a 7200RPM drive. I
solved this by putting mine in a 5.25" slot and then putting a fan
in front of it that forceblows air across it.
If you have a fairly large case then you might get this operation to work
even in 3.5" slots. The important thing is that air is being forced to
flow across it, thermal flow is not enough.
Rule of thumb is that a drive is too hot if you dont want to put your
hand on it 10 seconds without making faces :)
