Hello!
I hate to ask this, but I have a friend who wants to add a DAT drive
to his system. The preferable way to do it would be to hang it off of
one of those NCR based PCI controllers -- but he has heard that they
have problems with connects and disconnects which interfer with tape
drives and wants me to write you all asking confirmation or dissmissal
of the rumors.
He also has an Always IN-2000 card sitting around from a DOS box he
had. I have had lousey experiences with those cards and Linux. I can't
think of too many reasons why a tape drive might be less stressful
then a hard drive, so I'm reluctant tell my friend to entrust his
system back-ups (unattended) to an Always controller.
He has a a slackware kernel ~1.2.2 at the moment, but wouldn't be
opposed to installing a later 1.2.x kernel or a 1.3.x kernel if it
would help.
Any advice you might have about either of those cards and DAT drives
would be well received.
Christopher
