Sounds like your booting from IDE devices.
Rebuild the kernel enabling the aic7xxx device in the SCSI section,
probably best as a module in your case (don't really know). If using
the Adaptec card path the kernel with aic7xxx-5.0.3, you'll be glad
you did! Better yet, if you haven't bought it yet, get a Buslogic or a
DPT! At least they give the driver developers codeing info.
