The SCSI bus would go into an endless loop of reseting the SCSI bus.
Console messages such as "trying harder" etc. Bottom line was no disk
access, a hard boot was the only fix. As the shutdown involved mounted
disks, fsck would run at bootup killing a lot of time. The good news
in this is I never seemed to lose any data as the bus would lockup
while news was expiring (small slrnpull 40 groups feed) and updatedb
was doing its thing.
Now I've got a 6 node cable with 12" centers, no termination on any
device, active termination devices at each end of the cable, and
Granite's active termination 68/50 pin adapter. As I said above, the
system in now rock solid. (This condition made me so nervous I got an
APC UPS and set it up with genpowerd to monitor power & shutdown. Now
onto raid5!)
