I have a HP 6020i, it's working very well for me with the AHA1542 card. I could
never get it to work properly with the 2940U, (kernel 2.0.30) it freezes during
"fixation". I'm using cdwrite with it. I would say yes to your question.
Before finding the HP, I tried unsuccessfully on the 2040U the Phillips CD-R
and some other brand that I have forgotten.
