Hi All,
I have an ASUS P55T2P4 120mhz. P5 w/96meg EDO, an Adaptec 2940
circa 1994??? with 5 50pin drives attached.
Kernel is 2.0.33 with Doug Ledford's aic7xxx-5.0.0 patch
4 months ago I added an IBM DCAS-34330W to the bus. This is a
68 pin device attached with a 50/68 pin adapter. Ever since adding
this device, under heavy i/o the scsi bus will lock up. (expiring
news, updatedb, cron.daily) 6 out of 7 days this ocures when
cron.daily runs. I've put in a new scsi cable, 6 feet w/nodes @
12" intervals, active termination at both ends. Since adding Dougs
patch the system stayed up 3 days before a lockup.
Questions;
1) Are there known firmware problems with the DCAS-34330W
2) Does a 50/68 pin adapter terminate the extra data lines.
If so, active or passive. If not could this be the
problem source? Is a 50/68 pin adapter available with
active termination?
3) Would I be better off trashing the 2940 and putting in
a DPT 2144UW. (future raid5)
4) Regarding #3 above, would I have the same problem mixing
50 and 68 pin drives?
5) Can you mix SCA drives and SCSI-3 on the same bus.
(more future raid thinking)
Thanks for the help.
Hope these questions aren't too boneheaded for this group!
-Mike
