I have a problem that I can't seem to solve in a bug that occured
somewhere between 2.0.27 and 2.0.32
Since I have two types of SCSI adapters, I am not sure which
is at fault.. so I am sending it to both the authors/lists
Details of the system
ALR Revolution Q
Pentium 90
64 Megs of ram
EISA
2 SCSI adapters
Twin bus AHA-274x (EISA)
DPT Raid Controller (EISA)
The DPT has 3 hot swap drives in a raid array
The AHA has the Tape drive and 5 small 500 meg SCSI drives
split across the duel scsi busses, using MD to stripe them togther
as a fast scratch drive.
In kernel 2.0.27 we had no problems whatsoever.
Now that we have upgraded to 2.0.32 we have problems..
First.. we get these messages often
Dec 7 08:49:12 enterprise kernel: aic7xxx: Command complete near Qfull count, q
outcnt = 3.
I have no idea what this means..
Second.. and more importantly..
During normal operation, the system runs fine (other than the messages above)
BUT. when the nightly backups run.. most of the time the system falls over.
The tape backup unit is on the AIC controller, but it's only backing
up data on the DPT (The drives on the AIC are scratch drives so we don't
back them up)
It generally happens half way through the backup
I don't have a copy of the errors on the screen yet when it crashes, I am
still waiting for the Sysops to send me the transcript.. But they are
EATA errors, something like timeouts and card not responding and stuff..
Unfortunately.. it doesn't log anything once it happens..
Below are the boot up logs that may be of help.. When I get the
transcript of the error messages I will pass them onto you
ASAP.. I am sending you this now in the hope that you may allready
know what this problem is..
I have turned off command queuing, as I have had problems with that
on other machines/controllers.. but it didn't seem to help.
(elevator sorting is turned on tho)
