I just purchased the Archive Python External with a
Conner(Seagate)4586NP.  There are means to control the loader via linux.
Check out Leonard N. Zubkoff's MTX program at:

External unit with shipping and a SCSI-II cable and terminator will take
you over $400USD. They didn't tell me about the $99 six year warranty.
May be worth checking out.
