I've been running this drive for about 3 weeks. It's fast enough when
backing up the computer to which it attached; but, because of its
streaming nature, it takes a while to back up a remote computer over a
10baseT network. The tape must rewind a bit, then take a running start
to write each block.
The 4 Gig tapes are about $37 in San Diego, at Fry's. The drive was
$400, so $139 sounds like a good deal.

Subject: Seagate CTT-8000 Travan
Hi all. I have an opportunity to pick up a 4G/8G SCSI Seagate
Travan
CTT-8000 drive for like $139.
It looks like the data rates are as good (bad?) as its IDE
equivelant. I'm
looking for a workgroup backup device, don't want to spend $600
on a drive,
and would also like to keep the tape costs as cheap as possible.
Anyone have any opinions about this drive? I think the tapes
are QIC-3095
format, which means they are about $30/piece?
Thanks,
Dave
