I just got a nused computer. Just a 486DX4/100 that I was planning on
running Linux on. I just asked for a bare bones system, with modem.
Smallest hard drive possible and 8 MB of RAM. Well they told me that
they'd give me a 200 MB drive for the same price as any thing smaller so
I took it. I figured it'd be an IDE drive controlled by an on board
controller. Well when I got the system first thing I did was pull the
cover to see what bargan basement parts I got (Packard Bell guts), but I
was shocked to see an ISA SCSI controller connected to a 200 meg Maxtor
drive. Well hey, I'm a bit SCSI fan, so I was happy. I just pulled out
my Slackware SCSI boot and root disks and went to town.
Here is the problem, when I boot I get 0 SCSI Hosts detected. So what
is this card?
Here is what I have:
Controller:
Claims to be a P.E. Logic Corp.
Main chip:
SYMBIOS LOGIC (C)1992
53C400A
609-0392115
DP09383
960BN
Socketed Chip with sticker:
PEL-820
V3.05
I have other little chips that seem just the normal junk.
There is a table giving me DIP swich settings to change the MEM and I/O
of the card. Which currently looks like MEM:CC00 and I/O:300. The
other DIP switches on the card are labled PIO(Off), OWS(On), TERM(Off),
IRQ3(Off), and IRQ5(Off).
The card allows me to boot just fine into DOS from the SCSI hard drive.
I have the card sitting in my lap right now and realize that I should
have written down the info that the card gives me about the drive when I
boot, but I'm pretty sure I remember: ID:3, LUN:0. And the card says
something about IRQ13.
I am pretty capable of following instructions to make things work, just
not that familiar with what needs to be done to make it work. The
SCSI-HOWTO doesn't mention any cards from P.E. Logic. So any ideas on
what I need to do to make this card work? I have no money to buy
anything else (if that helps remove some of your suggestions).
Thank you very much,
Chris Meadors
