Take another look at the pre-2.0.31. ncr53c8xx driver 2.4 with nvram support
has been included since pre-6.

Not that nvram makes a great deal of difference if you are only using a
Tekram card. But it helps enormously if there is a mixture of Tekram and
Symbios cards which was the case while I developed the nvram code.

I have used a Tekram DC390W on and off for a long time now with the
ncr53c8xx driver, probably at least 18 months, with no problems. Just need
to be careful it doesn't get set into differential mode by any Symbios
bios/drivers lying about, but works quite well. I don't use it now except
for testing as I now use Symbios 875 cards mostly and because the Tekram
hardware makes it look like a differential card to all Symbios software.

I guess, as the ncr53c8xx driver in pre-patch-2.0.30-10 supports nvram, the
first proposal applies to both 2.1.xx and 2.0.xx
