The AHA1542CF has decent line drivers. The AHA2940U does not.
Therefore the AHA2940U is very sensitive to cabling and termination
problems. Rumor has it that there are AHA1542CF's out there with weak
line drivers too, but I have not had the displeasure of encountering
one.
What is it that make formerly decent companies like Adaptec and 3com
produce such crap nowadays? And more importantly, why do people keep
buying it?
