I just got a new computer at work that I would really like to load
linux onto. However, I cannot find a boot disk that will recognize
the scsi controller.

The boot up sequence reports the scsi controller as:

Adaptec AIC-7860 Ultra / Ultra W Bios v1.24

I checked the kernel source tree, and found this controller listed.
It seems to be the main chip in the AHA-294x series. In this case it
is built into the motherboard. I tried booting with the slackware 96
aha2x4x.s boot disk and with the generic scsi boot disk, but the kernel
did not recognize any scsi controller. I am told that it is a very new
chip and that NT3.51 does not recognize it "out of the box" either.

Does anyone have any info on this?

The machine is a dual processor 200MHz PPro with 128M of memory and a
four gig scsi disk. It had to be loaded with dos first and then
switched to NT. I have been left just over a gig of space on the hard
drive for linux but have been unable to make use of it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ed
