Since I bought an IBM DPES-31080 disk, I have experienced SCSI lockups when
I backup from the disk to my Wangtek 6200-HS DAT drive.
Previously I had an IDE drive, and I had no problems at all in doing backups
from the IDE disc to the DAT drive.
The DAT has two LEDs on the front: a green which tells, i think, that a
tape is inserted and a yellow, which turns on during tape winding and data
transfers.
When the lockups occur, the green LED is turned off, but the yellow LED is
on!.
I also experienced problems when trying to backup directly from a NEC 3xp
CD-ROM drive which I borrowed from work, some time ago (actually, I had
lockups when I installed from the CD-ROM to the disk too). At that time, I
attributed it to the CD-ROM, but now, i'm not so sure.
Oh yes: the disk runs fine when I dont access the tape drive.
Motherboard: ISA, 486DLC/33, Cyrix Cx387 and 8Mb RAM.
Cards: ET4000 run-of-the-mill graphics card,
Ancient multi-I/O card with 2S/1P/1G (1 16450 + 1 16550A uart).
aha1542CF on id7,
IBM DPES-31080 on id0, lun0
Wangtek 6200HS on id1, lun0
I am willing to experiment quite a bit to get the darn thing to work,
because right now, my DAT drive is rendered pretty useless.
