Interesting. How close were the connectors on the bad cable? I checked the
comp.periphs.scsi faq, and it seems to recommend 4-6 inches as a minimum.
My connectors are at least 6 inches apart, more likely 8 inches. However, i
seem to remember (in the _deep_ back of my hogde-podge memory) that the
connectors should be at least 12 inches (30 cm) apart(!). This would make
for absurdly long cables in my already rather filled minitower cabinet.

However, my lockup problem has been solved by disallowing the IBM disk to do
disconnections. I talked to the guys I bought the disk from, and they said,
after talking to their supplier (a whole-seller), that the disconnection
problem is not caused by the disk, but by the AHA1542CF(!). According to
the wholeseller, all disks f*k up the disconnection, when used together with
an 1542c/1542cf adapter. However, i'm not so sure.
