This occasions a question that is very timely, as I will be soon picking
up an enet card for a 486/DX266 VL bus with an Adaptec SCSI 2842
controller. I remember from the enet how-to that there have been some
problems with the SMC Ultra and SCSI bus mastering controllers.

I was one of the people reporting this. My best guess at the moment is that
the problems I saw were actually due to DRAM timing parameters being a bit too
fast rather than the SMC card, but it will be a while before I can try the SMC
card again to see if the problem has gone away.
