Did you put a
+ sign in your local /etc/passwd ?
Did you build the passwd.byname and passwd.byadddr databases in
/var/yp/your-domain on your yp server ?
Are you using a recent libc which supports yp passwd database searches?
5.2.x or 5.3.x schould work
hope this helps a little,
cheers,
